<trans-abstract xml:lang="en"><p>The “wild man” is a folk character which is widespread among many peoples of Eurasia. This character has been studied very deeply and conceptually in his existence in the medieval culture of European peoples. The article describes the oikotype of the “wild man”. The description based on texts from the countries of Central Asia. The Pamirs (Badakhshan Mountainous Autonomous Region, Tajikistan) and Kyrgyzstan are the main region, which contains the bulk of the texts. The most common character’s nominations are gul-biyavan, almasty as well as “wild man” and its translations into local languages. Including the usual folklore variability, the texts of this region demonstrate a number of common characteristics of the character: nudity, gray-yellow (camel) fur, bigger than human sizes, body parts different from human. The stories about the “wild man” are built on the next collisions: a man meeting a wild creature (including the motif of hand-to-hand combat) or the discovery of traces of the presence of a “wild man”. Other regions of Central Asia demonstrate other, diverse features of the character and stories about him. The “wild man” stands out clearly from other mythological characters with similar characteristics. The opposition “culture – nature” organizes representations of the “wild man”.</p></trans-abstract><kwd-group xml:lang="ru"><kwd>«дикий человек»</kwd><kwd>гуль-бияван</kwd><kwd>алмасты</kwd><kwd>мифологический персонаж</kwd><kwd>Памир</kwd><kwd>встреча с «диким человеком»</kwd></kwd-group><kwd-group xml:lang="en"><kwd>“wild man”</kwd><kwd>Gul-Biyavan</kwd><kwd>almasty</kwd><kwd>mythological character</kwd><kwd>Pamir</kwd><kwd>meeting with a “wild man”</kwd></kwd-group><funding-group><funding-statement xml:lang="ru">Исследование выполнено за счет гранта Российского научного фонда № 24-18-01119, https://rscf.ru/project/24-18-01119/</funding-statement><funding-statement xml:lang="en">The work was supported by the Russian Science Foundation, the project № 24-18-01119, https://rscf.ru/project/24-18-01119/.</funding-statement></funding-group></article-meta></front><back><ref-list><title>References</title><ref id="cit1"><label>1</label><citation-alternatives><mixed-citation xml:lang="ru">Басилов 1994 – Басилов В.Н.
